James K. Shaw
Legal Experience
James K. Shaw is a partner with Kamensky Rubinstein Hochman & Delott, LLP, and concentrates in federal taxation with special emphasis on employee benefits. He spent six years practicing public accounting prior to joining the Firm in 1987. He has published various articles on mergers and acquisitions of physician practices and is co-author of "Practice Mergers and Acquisitions" presented to the Chicago Medical Society. He has also published numerous articles on estate planning and employee benefits topics in Estate Planning and Taxation for Accountants. Mr. Shaw has also contributed to speeches given by the Firm's partners at the annual meeting of the American Society of Pension Actuaries, the Enrolled Actuaries meeting, the Ohio State University Tax Conference, the Southern Law Institute Tax Conference and the Illinois Medical Group Management Association. He has spoken to the Illinois CPA Society on various employee benefit plan topics.
Mr. Shaw has been actively involved in Kamensky Rubinstein Hochman & Delott, LLP's efforts to clarify and simplify various pension laws, particularly those pertaining to affiliated service groups, controlled groups and employee leasing. Mr. Shaw also assisted the Firm's efforts in proposing legislation through the Illinois Bar Association that furthered the protection of pension plan assets.
Mr. Shaw has also been involved in Kamensky Rubinstein Hochman & Delott, LLP's merger and acquisition practice, having participated in the representation of clients on both the "acquiring" and "acquired" sides of the transaction. As part of the firm's mergers and acquisition practice, Mr. Shaw has also been involved in the formation of management service organizations (MSOs) and other forms of health care entities that manage physicians' practices.

Mr. Shaw has been admitted to practice before the Illinois Supreme Court.
Bar Association and Other Memberships
Mr. Shaw is a current member of the Employee Benefits Committee of the Tax Section of the American Bar Association. He is a present member of the Subcommittee on Government Submissions and is a past member of the Task Force on HMO's and Related Problems. Mr. Shaw is also a member of the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries. He was a member of the Education and Examination Committee of the American Society of Pension Actuaries, for which he wrote examinations that are taken by actuaries and other pension professionals for accreditation.
Educational Background
Mr. Shaw received his law degree from Loyola University of Chicago in 1982 and his Masters of Law (Taxation) degree from New York University in 1983. He graduated from the University of Illinois-Chicago in 1975 with a B.S. degree with honors in business administration and highest distinction in accounting, received a Masters in Management degree with distinction from Northwestern University in 1976, and in the same year passed the Certified Public Accountant examination.
